FAQ
Max Benjamin Candles: Scent, Materials, and Where They Are Made
Max Benjamin candles come in three Mediterranean-inspired scents, each built around bright citrus and soft herbs rather than heavy sweetness. Dodici is a herbal citrus of lemon, marjoram, Tuscan lavender, and rosemary, inspired by a Sicilian evening. Acqua Viva is an aquatic citrus of mandarin and orange lifted with cardamom and pepper, settling into musk, amber, and cedarwood. French Linen Water is the softest, a gentle floral of lavender, sweet orange, and petitgrain. All three are poured in natural soy wax and burn for roughly fifty hours.
Yes. Max Benjamin candles are made from natural soy wax with cotton wicks, which is why they burn clean and soot-free. Each candle is hand-poured in the brand’s studio in Co. Wicklow, Ireland, into a smoked-grey glass vessel stamped with the house motif, holds 7.4 ounces, and burns for around fifty hours. The same three fragrances are also offered as reed diffusers and car diffusers for flame-free scenting.
Max Benjamin sits in the accessible-luxury tier: a candle costs less than half of a Diptyque and roughly a third less than a large Voluspa jar, while still being hand-poured in small batches rather than mass-produced. What sets it apart on our floor is the provenance, since it is one of the few brands we carry that is genuinely made by the founding family in their own studio rather than under contract. The scent throw is moderate and clean, well suited to a kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom rather than a large open-plan room, where a triple-scented brand would carry further.
For the price, Max Benjamin candles are one of the easier recommendations we make. A soy candle that is hand-poured in Ireland, burns soot-free for about fifty hours, and arrives in glass heavy enough to reuse as a tumbler delivers more than most candles in its price range. The scents lean fresh and unisex, so they suit people who find vanilla-and-amber candles too sweet. They are not the longest-throwing candles we stock, so for filling a very large room we would point you to a triple-scented brand, but for everyday scenting and gifting the value is hard to beat.
Max Benjamin makes some of the most reliable gifts on our shelf because the whole range looks more expensive than it is. The smoked-glass candle photographs and unwraps like a designer piece, and the matching car diffuser has become one of our favorite stocking fillers and add-on gifts. For a host or a hard-to-read recipient, a candle-and-diffuser pairing in one scent reads as thoughtful without overspending. The fresh, unisex fragrances also make it a safe choice when you do not know whether someone leans floral, woody, or citrus.
Max Benjamin is an Irish brand and less common in American stores, which is part of why we added it. Candle Delirium carries the full Max Benjamin range, candles, reed diffusers, and car diffusers in all three scents, and ships across the US with free shipping over $150. You can also smell all three in person at our West Hollywood showroom, which is the best way to choose between the herbal Dodici, the citrus Acqua Viva, and the soft floral French Linen Water before you buy.
