Diptyque Candles: Burn Time, Best Scents and Value
Diptyque candles last according to size. The 190g classic burns 50 to 60 hours, the 300g burns 80 to 90 hours, and the 600g three-wick burns roughly 150 hours. Burn the candle until the melt pool reaches the edge on the first light, usually two to three hours, and trim the wick to about 5mm before each use. Treated this way, Diptyque candles burn evenly to the base without tunneling.
Whether Diptyque candles are worth the price depends on what you are buying them for. They cost more than most candles on the market because the fragrance load is high, the compositions are built by perfumers, and the scent throw and cold-to-lit consistency hold up where cheaper candles fade. For an everyday candle burned quickly, the value is debatable. For a scent you want a room to hold and a vessel you will reuse, Diptyque candles are priced in line with what they deliver. We sell the full range and still light them at home.
Across the luxury brands we carry, Diptyque candles occupy the middle of the prestige range and the top of the recognition range. Against Trudon, the older French house, Diptyque is more modern and more wearable, with scents that feel composed rather than classical. Against Nest, Diptyque is less affordable but more singular, with a scent identity people recognize by name. Against fine-fragrance-led houses like Maison Margiela, Diptyque candles carry the same compositional seriousness with a deeper catalog and longer history in wax. The short version we give customers: few brands are bought by the scent name the way Baies, Feu de Bois, and Figuier are.
For gifting, the safest Diptyque candles are the ones with broad appeal and instant recognition. Baies works for almost anyone, since blackcurrant and rose reads as fresh rather than sweet or heavy. Figuier suits people who like green, natural scents and is a strong choice for a host or a new home. Feu de Bois is the cold-weather gift, especially for someone with a fireplace or a study. For a larger gesture, the 600g three-wick in any of these reads as a serious present without needing wrapping. When taste is unknown, the 190g Baies is the one we reach for most.
