After two decades selling christmas candles at our West Hollywood boutique, our most reliable gifting rule is: buy the pine for shared spaces, buy the spice for intimate ones.

Christmas candles are the most gifted item we sell in November and December, and the ones that miss as gifts almost always miss the same way: the giver chose a scent they personally loved, and the recipient did not share the taste. For unknown recipients, lean neutral. Cedar, sandalwood, and linen travel across more households than sweet gourmands or heavy florals.
