FAQ
Buying Diptyque: What to Know Before You Shop
Diptyque makes a full range of home and personal fragrance. The house produces scented candles, eau de toilette and eau de parfum, solid and liquid body care, hair mist, reed diffusers, room sprays, and seasonal limited editions. Everything is composed in France. At Candle Delirium we carry the catalog across every one of these categories.
Diptyque rarely discounts. The house maintains fixed pricing for most of the year, and authorized retailers follow it. The exceptions are occasional promotional windows and the period around Black Friday, when select pieces may be reduced. We notify our newsletter list before these windows open so subscribers see limited editions and any reductions first.
Diptyque is known for turning fragrance into an art object. Founded in 1961 by three friends with backgrounds in painting, interior design, and theatre, the house built its reputation on the oval label, the hand-poured candle, and scents that read like compositions rather than products. Baies, its blackcurrant and rose scent, became one of the most recognized luxury fragrances in the world. After more than twenty years selling the full line from our West Hollywood floor, what we tell people is that Diptyque is less a candle brand than a fragrance house that happened to start near wax.
Among the luxury houses we carry, Diptyque sits in a particular place. Versus Trudon, which is older and more classically French in its candle work, Diptyque feels more modern and more wearable across categories, since it does perfume and body care as seriously as wax. Versus Nest, Diptyque is less accessible in price and more singular in its scents. Versus a fine-fragrance-first house, Diptyque is unusual in that its candles are as collected as its perfumes. We carry more than fifty brands, and Diptyque is one of a small number customers ask for by name before they have chosen a category.
