Burn Candles
Probably much like you, each evening as the sun settles, we begin our ritual. It’s a circuit of moving around our home places and lighting candles. We’ve been performing this custom forever. A few years ago, in the midst of it and in conversations about it, Burn Candles admitted to each other an obsession. We were always looking for the perfect candle. Because it is the simple and private luxuries that most engage us, Burn Candles became convinced that it was time to create what we could not find with the suspicion that others, whether they knew it or not, were looking for the same thing.
As you know, the lighting of candles and the diffusion of scent have a long human history. It is sacred and profane, luxurious and mundane (at its least inspired). It seduces in the bedroom and invites in the living room. In all of its aspects it was this personal ceremony and pleasure that Burn Candles wanted to refine. It was a selfish pursuit. Burn Candles admit that we wanted to create something that gave us pleasure and that met our admittedly rather jaded aesthetic and olfactory demands. BURN CANDLES are the result.
Simplicity
Tiring of turning glasses around to hide advertisements and of looking at only the most prosaic of vessels, Burn Candles set out to contain our candles in something that was architectural, enhanced its surroundings and never drew ostentatious attention to itself. Burn also rigorously forced ourselves to adhere to the design maxim of form serving function. Nothing tricked up or contrived here. Burn Candles found ourselves drawn to the same borosilicate glass that has served laboratories well for generations in its tolerance of the highest of temperatures. Burn then married this industrial material to an organic sensibility by having these bowls poured by hand to make evident the human touch.
Function
These bowls are wide and low slung not only because Burn found that appealing. The wide mouth and trio of wicks creates the largest pool of wax on the surface of the candle. This expanded radius allows the greatest amount of ‘throw’ of fragrance into the atmosphere for over 100 hours. Burn Candles have tried to achieve elegance with restraint, that only advertises the sure hand of the burner and that keeps the attention focused on the main show: the fragrance.
Complexity
Candles have long been the step-child of the perfumer when compared to showy eau de parfums. As a result, most fragrance compositions for candles are simple and less than full bodied. Burn Candles show the handiwork of the artisanal perfumer. Each fragrance is composed of a multitude of notes at the base, top and heart. They are-in fact-eau de parfums that are intended to scent your space as subtly, seductively and complexly as any fragrance you could ever wear. Burn dresses the spaces that we live in with as much loving care as we do ourselves so we believed it was high time to scent them with same high standards.
These fragrances reveal themselves with a subtle strength. They have been blended to be burned solo or in combination. As Burn has tested them in our own spaces, we have grown to love pairings and groupings of them set about our rooms to create a mélange of fragrance. We are sure that you will do the same.
